Unfortunately, Death From Above 1979 has cancelled their appearance at the festival. They have hit a wall recording their new record, and are not ready to perform live right now. We wish them all the best.

We’re thrilled, however, to announce the addition of Foals to the festival! They will be returning to NYC while touring in support of their amazing new record, ‘Holy Fire.’

Think About Your Transportation To And From The Fest

How To Get to the Festival

Getting to RANDALL’S ISLAND:

• MTA: Take the 4/5/6 subway to 125th street and Lexington Avenue, & transfer to the our special line of x80 busses waiting right outside the stop to take you right to the festival
• Ferry: From East 35th Street along the water – Saturday sold out, limited tickets for Sunday HERE
• Shuttle: From Williamsburg’s McCarren Park – Sold out!
• Walk/Bike: You can walk across the 125th RFK Bridge (entrance at 124th! in Manhattan) or the 103rd street bridge. Signage will guide you to us and both bridges will be open through the night.
• Drive: Parking passes are still available and can be purchased HERE.
• Cabs: Take a cab to Randall’s Island and tell the cabbie to take you to Icahn stadium. You won’t miss us…

Weather Could Not Be More Perfect

With that minor heat wave behind us, the weather forecast for this weekend looks absolutely perfect. Come out and enjoy a beautiful two days on Randall’s Island with your friends.

• Saturday and Sunday ferry tickets are almost sold out and we anticipate them being sold out by mid-day Friday. If you want to take the ferry to the fest, be advised that you need to get your ferry ticket ASAP!
• Only a few regular VIP and All Access VIP tickets remain, so if you want to take advantage of these special areas, you should also get them ASAP! We anticipate them selling out by Friday evening.
• YOU’RE DOING GREAT!
• This weekend’s weather forecast looks phenomenal. So be sure to stay hydrated, lather up in sun screen, and give plenty of high fives to fellow Gov Ballers
• Don’t forget that you can also take the subway and bus to the festival. The 4 and 5 subway lines go directly to 125th street where MTA shuttles will be going back and forth to the festival all weekend long.

Welcome to the first day of summer!

The Gov Ball team, from our temporary office pods on Randall’s Island, is gearing up for a beautiful weekend as the Main Stage is built behind us.

Alright party people, the time has come to announce the schedule for Gov Ball 2012! Among many amazing sets, you’ll be witnessing Beck’s first NYC show in 4 years, Passion Pit’s first NYC appearance since 2010, Fiona Apple’s first major NYC show in 7 years, and hometown heroes Duck Sauce playing their first NYC gig ever. Keeping with last year’s theme, there will be no overlapping sets, so you’ll be able to see every single minute of every single act’s set at the festival. Do your calisthenics and stay hydrated – lots of rocking out will be taking place. See you in 5 days – Gov Ball 2012 y’all!!

Festival Map

The festival map has been released! This detailed map will help you navigate around the event site and show you where every performance area, beverage station, food vendor, art installation, activity, ATM, and bathroom is located. We spent a lot of time designing this year’s festival site so that your experience is as kick-ass as humanly possible. Take a peek and get excited.

Festival App Coming Soon

We are stoked to release the 2012 festival app for all of you with smart phones. This app will be released on Thursday and will contain the daily schedules, festival map, a list of food vendors and their food offerings, as well as your festival e-ticket! That’s right, your festival e-ticket can be gotten through the Gov Ball festival app. So download the app, download your ticket, and party on.

Film Biz Recycling

We’re thrilled to have a few areas of the festival decorated by Film Biz Recycling, a not-for-profit organization creating socially responsible and sustainable solutions from media industry waste. They take donations from shoots in New York, donate most of what they get to charity and sell the rest to lucky apartment dwellers like you. FBR’s vast 11,000 square foot Prop Shop in Gowanus is open 7 days a week and receives loads of fun and funky new items everyday – so you never know what you’re going to find!

Don’t delay in thinking about how you’re getting to and from the festival, as these tickets are definitely on pace to sell out prior to the festival. From Manhattan, the most convenient way to get to the fest is taking the ferries. From Brooklyn or Philly, the most convenient way is our shuttles. Many of these transportation options are close to selling out, so don’t delay, BUY TODAY!

CamelBak Hydration Stations

CamelBak is supplying FREE freshly filtered water at several locations throughout the festival grounds. Be sure to bring your CamelBak bottle or hydration pack to stay hydrated during the festival. For the sixth installment of our artist interview series, we caught up with Dutch electronic sensations, Nobody Beats the Drum. A few hours before their highly anticipated show in Miami during Winter Music Conference, Team Gov Ball sat down with the 3 band members to discuss an array of topics. Duck Sauce Interview

For the 5th installment of the artist interview series, we caught up with Duck Sauce in Miami to discuss their impending performance at Gov Ball. For those of you that don’t know – this is a big deal, as Gov Ball will be their first show EVER in New York City. A-Trak and Armand Van Helden discussed Duck Sauce’s origin, the first song they recorded together, the unique vision behind their infamous music videos, and why Gov Ball is going to be a, “major, major event.”

Charity Partner

We are very pleased to announce that Children’s Future International is the official charity partner of Gov Ball 2012! Philadelphia Shuttle Service!

We’re happy to announce that we are now offering shuttles to and from Philadelphia to both days of this year’s Governors Ball. The shuttles leave from Lombard & S. 2nd Street at two times: 9:30am or Noon. Don’t worry another minute about your ride to the festival – we’ve got you covered! We are excited to announce the addition of Fiona Apple to Gov Ball 2012! The Grammy award-winning artist will be touring this year behind her first new album since 2005′s critically acclaimed Extraordinary Machine. Machine was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 49th best album of the 2000s, and was nominated for multiple Grammys. This past Friday, Apple’s select six-show club tour (her first live dates since 2007) was met with incredible demand, and sold out in minutes. Apple’s addition to the Sunday lineup of Gov Ball will give new fans, as well as her die-hard following, one of the first opportunities to see her perform live in NYC since her sold out show at Central Park in 2006.

Its an honor to have one of the greatest, and most unique, female singer/songwriters in alternative music grace the stage at Gov Ball this year. We can’t wait.

Travel Package Info

We’re teaming up with CID Entertainment to offer some awesome travel packages for you folks coming from out of town. We are THRILLED to announce the dates for the 2012 Governors Ball Music Festival!

Taking place on Saturday June 23rd and Sunday June 24th, Gov Ball 2012 will be expanding to a two day event and will feature some of the best acts in the indie, electronic, rock, hip hop and pop music scenes. We are expanding our programming scope to add new flavors to the festival experience, and we couldn’t be more excited to diversify our musical offerings!

We are also thrilled to announce that we are moving the event’s home to Randall’s Island! With more ways to access the festival venue (public transpo, ferry, car, shuttle/party bus, bike, and by foot), the overall festival experience will be improved and y’all will have an easier time getting to and from the venue each day. In addition, Governors Island is undergoing some pretty serious construction next summer, so returning there was not a possible option. We hope all are as excited about this as we are. We’re counting down the days until we open gates and get this party started.

The lineup announcement is coming in January. STAY TUNED and feel free to stop by our Facebook page to give us suggestions on who you would like to see next year!

The guiding force behind the inaugural Governors Ball is the music that gets people of all walks of life moving, shaking and having a good time. This collection of emerging and established, local and international artists will synthesize the music with the surroundings, creating an atmosphere of cognizant cool. From Jimmy Kuehnles larger-than-life inflatable sculptures to paintings by urban dynamo Sofia Maldonado, the art will inspire, elate and tickle the senses. “The Mural of Memorable Moments in Dance” is a large scale painting of dance-themed prose by Daniel Patrick Helmstetter. Positioned in front of the mural will be a dance floor, open for everyone to show off their best moves in front of a time-lapse video camera, set to record. Enter to Help Paint an Installation for The Governors Ball!
Whether on a wall, canvas or window pane, Ibrahim Ahmed III’s work always begins with a layer of rhythmically splattered paint and this time, he needs YOUR help! Hes looking for two assistants to join him in his studio space in Newark, NJs Solo(s) Project House on Saturday, June 4th at noon to help him lay down the base for this dynamic project — BY TOSSING WATER BALLOONS FULL OF PAINT! The contest will be run on our facebook page and will be announced in the coming days – keep an eye out. No painting experience necessary. We are pleased to announce that the Brooklyn based hip hop group Das Racist has been added to this year’s festival! We decided the 2011 lineup needed a bit more NYC love, and who better to represent than these fun loving, critically acclaimed MCs. As The New York Times puts it, “Das Racists lack of piety has become an aesthetic of its own, with songs that are as much commentary on hip hop as rigorous practice of it.” We couldn’t be more excited to have Das Racist at this year’s festival, and if you aren’t yet up on them – you should definitely get after it.

Activities, Activities, Activities!

What better way to compliment an afternoon of kick-ass live music than with a plethora of fun summertime activities?! That being said, here is what we have in store for this year’s event:

Beer Pong Tournament
The official World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP) will hold a satellite tournament at the festival, and the winning team will win backstage passes, merch, 2012 Gov Ball tickets, and a spot at the 2011 WSOBP National Championships (where the grand prize is $50,000!). Teams can SIGN UP HERE and spots are limited!

Ping Pong
Thanks to our good friends at SPiN New York, attendees are able to enjoy Ping Pong at this years festival, as tables will be located around the grounds (including VIP) and SPiN New York staff will be on hand to give pointers and referee games. Be sure to stop by any of the on-site SPiN New York locations to battle your friends and bring out your inner McEnroe.

Basketball
Did you know that there is an outdoor basketball court with 5 hoops at the festival site on Governors Island? Awesome, we know. While we won’t be running a 5 on 5 tournament (or suicide drills for that matter), we will have basketballs available for all to enjoy a game of HORSE, 3-on-3, 21, or any derivative basketball game that suits your fancy. Channel your inner Amar’e Stoudemire and stop by.

Beach Volleyball
Our rad festival site also comes with two volleyball courts (one with sand, and one without). Volleyballs will be there for the taking, so be sure to watch the epic Top Gun volleyball scene and get that nose covered with SPF 75.

Australian dance rock band, Miami Horror sits down with the Governors Ball to talk about their favorite dance moves, folks they want to collaborate with, the origin of their band name, and more! Interview conducted by Lindsay Brandt and video edited by Malik Salam.

We are pleased to announce our 1st ever “Dance Off Contest”, where participants can win Backstage passes, autographed merch items, festival merch, & more!

The contest is simple: Record a 15 – 60 second clip of you and/or your friends dancing, post it on the wall of our Facebook page, and BOOM you are automatically entered. We couldn’t be more excited to break the news, and we hope you are looking forward to this sure-to-be epic NYC dance party as much as we are! This year’s inaugural event will be held on June 18th, 2011 on beautiful Governor’s Island in New York City. With two stages and no overlapping sets, the Governors Ball will feature 12 hours of non-stop music, allowing all attendees to see each and every artist performance on the festival bill. Complimenting the music will be comedians who will MC both stages, games & activities, good food (including soon to be announced NYC food trucks), good beer, good wine, and interactive art installations.
